I know it is high stress, high risk process for people responsible for the management of a staff group. The ultimate joy of being a manager/team leader is to have a positive, engaged, productive, and high performing team, with high morale.
This can be easily destroyed in front of your eyes if you take your eyes off the ball, when poor performance from a team member/s raises its head. If you fail to address these issues in a reasonable time – your high morale will quickly disappear. This can also cause other team members to question your ability to address poor performance that is affecting the whole team. In some cases other team members may feel they are carrying non-performers.
No point putting your head under the mat and hope it will go away. Because it doesn’t! it will just get worse.
My colleague, Dr. Jean Martin spent her career in the Human Resources and Organisational Development field saw time and time again these issues not being addressed in the workplace. This caused major problems of efficiency and effectiveness for organisations. She designed and developed the “Positive Management” programme. I got involved as a trainer of the programme and loved seeing the transformation when the managers got their hands on this practical six step process that enables managers to promptly and confidently deal with such issues addressing non-performance, behaviour and attitude issues in the workplace.
Even if you are fortunate enough not to have to deal with such issues applying the ‘Positive Management’ process and techniques can benefit your day-to-day staff management skills.
Positive Management is used in a number of organisations throughout New Zealand. It is run as two separate 4-hour workshops and is designed for managers, team leaders or project managers – or any people responsible for the management of a staff group.
